Reestablished as a new institute of its own at the TU Braunschweig
The history of the Entrepreneurship Hub goes back to the cooperation agreement of August 30, 2007 between the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences and the Technical University of Braunschweig. This cooperation agreement aims to promote startups from both universities, and to establish a sustainable startup culture in the region. As the cornerstone of this new cooperation, a joint “Endowed Chair for Entrepreneurship” was established in order to inspire as many students, alumni and academic staff as possible with the idea of founding a company and to provide them with the necessary knowledge to do so. The two universities have succeeded in attracting partners from the region to contribute financially to the professorship.
On March 1, 2009, the business information scientist and entrepreneur Prof. Dr. Reza Asghari was appointed to the endowed professorship. With great commitment, he and his team drove forward the establishment of the Entrepreneurship Center at Ostfalia and the Chair of Entrepreneurship at the TU Braunschweig to develop a start-up culture at universities. With success: In 2011, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology recognized Ostfalia University in cooperation with TU Braunschweig as one of the ten universities of excellence in the field of entrepreneurship and granted a considerable amount of funding to further improve support for startups at the two universities. In 2014, the endowed professorship was made permanent and permanently installed as a professorship.
In March 2018, the next milestone was reached with the reestablishment as a separate institute at the TU Braunschweig. We are aware that we must constantly develop ourselves further in order to remain attractive for students, alumni, scientists and people interested in founding a company. The legal and organizational changes were taken as an opportunity to standardize the naming and external appearance: In April 2018, the Entrepreneurship Center and the Chair of Entrepreneurship became the joint Entrepreneurship Hub of Ostfalia University and TU Braunschweig.
The mission remains the same: We are committed to strengthening and promoting a vibrant and cross-disciplinary start-up culture in the region. The research profile will be expanded and the scientific sector will be more involved in promoting spin-offs from the universities. Furthermore, by imparting the professional know-how and techniques related to business model development and the founding of innovative companies, the Entrepreneurship Hub provides students with the knowledge they need to become active themselves. The extracurricular events and workshops provide the necessary networking of the company with the regional and national start-up community.
This is very important for the region, as start-ups and university spin-offs create important links between science and business, which in turn generate regional employment effects, further strengthen innovative power and contribute to overall economic and societal improvements.
